my mom sopping up the water.

you can't really tell from the picture, but the tack strip was soaked, and we could see a little water dribble out from underneath the trim.
that morning out plumber friend came over and looked around and determined that the leak wad probably coming from a pipe in the wall that was attached to the water heater. he called a water and fire restoration guy, who came over with fans. the fans were on in the room and the garage for four days. the water heater is just behind the wall with the leak, and it (the water heater) was sitting on a stool that was sitting on sheetrock that was on the floor. the sheetrock just soaked up the water, and it would crumble away if you touched it.
another guy came over and cut a hole in the wall. the inside of the wall was saturated, and the insulation was soaked. and you could see a little spray coming from the hot water pipe. everything was left open to dry.

the plumber came back and repaired the pipe.

it all happened because that copper piece wasn't clamped down tight, and water was getting out. :(
once the floor was dry they started the repair. the workers could only do a little each day because they had to let the mud dry between coats.

another plumber came and detached the water heater.

and I got a new floor for the water heater.

once the wall was done and dry, the carpet dude was going to reinstall the carpet in the bedroom and the closet. but when my mom and I pulled it up we were just trying to deal with the water, and didn't notice that it didn't come up on the seam. and the carpet dude said that it wasn't going to fit together seamlessly anymore. so I had a dilemma. either I put a different carpet in just the closet, in the bedroom and closet, or I did something different. it took me awhile, but I decided to do something different.

the floor after my mom and I pulled out the carpet and the pad. (which, by the way, I still have, if anyone wants it. the bedroom carpet is still in great condition)

after the guys put down a subfloor and sealed the cracks and nail holes.

and he's putting this in right now! more pictures to come!
